Queen One Studios premiered their short film Dreamer at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The fully AI-generated film tells the story of an aspiring filmmaker through the decades.
Following the screening, co-founder Ryan Patterson joined a panel, “The Next Wave of AI Filmmaking: Smarter, Safer & Better” as part of the official TIFF programming.
Held on September 8 at the TIFF Bell Lightbox rooftop, the event was part of TIFF's 50th anniversary celebrations and brought together filmmakers and industry leaders to discuss the rapidly evolving world of AI-powered storytelling.
Ryan joined Hannah Elsakr from Adobe, Ed Ulbrich from Moonvalley and Pietro Gagliano from Transitional Forms for a conversation moderated by Todd Terrazas of AI on the Lot.

The discussion explored how generative AI is changing the filmmaking process, from speeding up production and opening new creative possibilities to navigating copyright, intellectual property and responsible AI development.
Ryan shared his experiences creating AI films, including his approach to embracing the unexpected results that generative tools can produce.
“Sometimes you ask them to go right and they go left. I've chosen to sort of lean into that unpredictability. Let's explore what's over there instead. Sometimes it leads to really interesting places.”
The panel also highlighted how AI is making ambitious filmmaking more accessible to independent creators, allowing smaller teams to bring ideas to life that previously required much larger budgets and resources.
It was a great opportunity to connect with fellow filmmakers, share our experiences and be part of the growing conversation around the future of filmmaking at one of the world's leading film festivals.
